Sarah day 8--
You know what's a great thing to have? Friends. I think that if it weren't for friends, life would be very boring. Having good friends means always having someone to talk to, hang out with and make memories with. They keep each other together when one feels like falling apart . . . If one does fall apart, they fall apart together. Having friends means never being alone.
Today, I have two very good friends getting married and I could not be more excited for them. I will be going to the wedding with Jesse as well as five of my other good girlfriends. I have decided that this year has been the year of the weddings, and every wedding has been a blast. I'm sure this is because I have had good friends to go with. It seems that we always have a great time when we get together.
There are two of my good friends that live pretty far away from me that I have really been missing. Taylor (aka Tail Hair) Bales, and Brittney (aka Beautiful) Guzek. They are both a couple of my very best friends, who have both been there for me since I have known them.
I met Taylor while I was living in Fargo and working at the Lonestar Steakhouse. We became really good friends really quickly, and I have
missed her so much since I moved away. In the summertime, we usually found ourselves lounging outside by the pool, and then chit-chatting at Frutti Tutti afterwords. I know that I can tell Tail Hair everything, and I can't imagine how I lived so many years without her!
Brittney and I have been friends for a long time. I'm not sure how old we were, but I remember going to volleyball open gym on Saturday nights and she would always set to me so I could hit. I'm thinking that must have been when she was in 9th grade and I was in 11th, but it could have been earlier. Beautiful is one of the funniest people I know, and I love being with her because we laugh ALL the time. She is going to school in Iowa for fashion, so we have hardly seen each other since 2009.
Today, I am sending cards to Tail Hair and Beautiful. I know it isn't much, but it seems that this is really all I can do for them at the moment. They both need to know that even though we do not see each other often, I think about them all the time. My life would be filled with so much more joy if I had them here with me every day. I feel that a card is a good way to show them that.
So I am dedicating this blog post to ALL of my friends. My friends who I will be seeing today, my friends that live far away from me, and all of my old friends that seems our connection has dwindled in the past few years. I am thankful for each and every one of them and how they have impacted my life. I am so grateful for them, and so blessed!

Sheila Day 8--
This morning I trekked off to town in my comfy attire to meet a friend for coffee and some conversation. I love Saturday mornings cuz the shower can come later in the day (hopefully after a workout), sweats are appropriate, and the over sized sweatshirt is totally appropriate. However, again as it often does, life throws me a little curve ball. My "random act of kindness" for the day hit me while I was on the way to TRF. Marshall!
Marshall . . . I baptized Marshall right after I started at Nazareth as their pastor. Marshall's mama, Steph, was on the call committee and was the president of the congregation at the time. Marshall is the sweetest little guy and is full We of energy and life. When I would do the Children's Sermon, Marahall would bop up, plop on my lap facing the congregation, and listen with the rest of the kiddos. He always made me giggle and smile. When he leaves church, not a high five, like the other kiddos, but rather fist pound with sparks after. Marshall is sick and in the hospital even as I write. Steph posted pictures of this little guy and it reminded me of a time when we spent time in the hospital with Sarah.
Sarah was only 2 when she fell off our back deck and broke her femur bone. I will never forget that day because my siblings and I were in Grand Forks surprising my mom and dad for their 25th wedding anniversary. When I came home, the doors were open, the house was dark, and Jordan's blanky was on the floor. Now the first two things were weird, but the blanky being at home actually terrified me. Jordan a.k.a. Bunky, never, never, NEVER, went anywhere without his blanky!!!!! Ronnie and I were instantly worried. I called Cal's auntie Linda. When she said, "Oh, my gosh . . . you don't know?" I was petrified and my stomach dropped. She told me where my baby girl was and a very frantic mama was headed to the hospital with Ronnie driving as I was a proverbial mess! When I got there, Sarah was in the hospital bed with Cal and Bunky in tow. They all looked like the world had just ended and were a pitiful sight. We had big decisions to make that could potentially affect Sarah for the rest of her life as she grew up.
Dr. Bray was Sarah's doctor and he was PHENOMENAL! We were blessed! I had a new job and going to Fargo where there was an orthopedic specialist was not an option as we would need to be with her day and night for many, many weeks as she laid in the hospital in traction. Neither of our jobs would allow that, hence we opted to put our faith in Dr. Bray and pray that God would work through him and the nurses to care for our baby girl.
Cal would sit with Sarah through the day, and I would come right after work and stay through the night. To say it was a difficult time was a vast understatement. We second guessed ourselves many, many times through that journey. And we, APPRECIATED each and every visit from those who loved Rah and the Michaels' crew. We were very lucky to have so many helping hands as we struggled through.
When I saw the pictures of Marshall, I was reminded of our baby girl. Thus, I opted to go and visit Marshall, Steph, and Troy. I stopped at Walmart to get puzzles which were Sarah's favorite. I also found a little story book, a Mickey Christmas CD, and a few suckers to help pass the time for them. As I approached the desk, 2 of Rah's friends were working Britt and Kate. What a gift to see their smiling faces. I asked about Marshall, got his room number, and turned around. I saw another individual I know needs some prayers today . . . I silently said one for him too and then made my way towards Marshall's room. I met Steph at the pop machine and we chatted for a few minutes, then we went to see the little man of the hour. I gave Marshall his gift and he smiled at the little treasures in the bag . . . including the gift bag. I did not stay a long time, but did watch him do a puzzle and take some licks on his cherry sucker. He have me sparks as I left . . . and I smiled.
I love the sparks of the season. Marshall gave me enough today to carry me into my next days. Today I pray for 2 men, one little and one older, that God brings his healing touch to both.
Lifesavers and Sparks,
Sheila
